Folk Star Block

Today we'll be making a folk star block! This will eventually end up in a quilt project were calling our Orchard Garden Sizzix Sampler Quilt.

Sizzix Bigz L Die - Triangles, Isosceles & Right 4 1/2" H Assembled - Item #657622

and

Sizzix Bigz Die - Square, 4" Finished (4 1/2" Unfinished) - Item #657609

Firstly, lets make our Sizzix sandwich. Place your cutting pad down first. Next stack your Square die on top - foam side up. Place 1 print fabric for the center of our star and 4 layers of the linen on top of that - making sure to cover up all of the die cut lines.  Then place your second cutting pad on top of the fabric.

Roll your Sizzix sandwich through the machine.

We’re left with our 5 square pieces.

Next, place your cutting pad down first and stack your Triangle die on top - foam side up. Place 4 layers of linen over the Isosceles triangle and 8 layers of print fabric over the right triangles - making sure to cover up all of the die cut lines.  Then place your second cutting pad on top of the fabric.

Roll your Sizzix sandwich through the machine.

We now have our 4 background triangle and 8 star points.

Place a star point piece on top of each of your background triangles. Clip at the beginning and end of each seam.

Sew together using a 1/4” seam allowance and roll open the seams.

Next, place another star point piece along the opposite edge - place a clip at each end and sew together your 4 pairs using a 1/4” seam allowance.

Roll your seams open.

Lay out your star and sew together the 3 pieces in each row using a 1/4” seam allowance and roll open your seams.

Sew together your 3 rows using a 1/4” seam allowance and roll open the seams.
